Types of domestic violence

There is a widespread opinion in society that violence equals beating or sexual abuse, but violence is not only physical and sexual, but also psychological and economic.

Violence is not only physical and sexual, but also psychological and economic.

  • Psychological violence - verbal abuse, gaslighting, threats, intimidation, etc.

NOTE! Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation, the purpose of which is to make the victim doubt the adequacy of his perception of the surrounding reality, questioning his own memory and sanity.

  • Physical - bodily harm, pushing, pinching, deprivation of liberty, or failure to provide assistance to a person who is in a dangerous condition.

  • Economic - intentional deprivation of housing, food, prohibition to use money or documents, obstruction of education, prohibition to work, etc.

  • Sexual – forced to watch pornographic films, forced to have sexual intercourse, sexual harassment, rape, etc.

Any manifestation of violence can have dire consequences. Violence degrades the honor and dignity of a person, can harm mental or physical health. Remember that the first step to stopping this is not to be afraid to speak up, to seek support and professional help.
